Sonograms and Vet Visit
Dr. Rust will be coming to the farm today to check on the girls. We will do a sonogram on Barynya and Tsitsilia and a general wellness check. Tsitsilia is not as big as we would expect in week 5, after two verified ties (and maybe some that we did not witness) on her mating. It would be surprising if she were not pregnant but she may be carrying only two or three pups, or a single pup. In the latter case she needs to be monitored carefully because with a singleton pup there may not be enough hormones to induce labor. We will let you know what Dr. Rust sees!

Hi Michelle
ReplyDeleteWhat was the result of the sonogram ? Is Tsitsilia ok ?
Thanks
Kay
We could not see any puppies on Tsitsilia's scan, we're sorry to report for all of you who had specifically reserved a puppy from Tsitsilia. Barynya's puppies are doing well, already moving and we counted about 7 although the sonogram is notoriously unreliable for puppy counting :-) Tsitsilia will be re-bred on her next heat in approximately six months time, this was her first cycle since the move to South Africa and she may not be ovulating normally yet if she is not fully acclimatized to the reversal of seasons in the southern hemisphere. If you had specifically requested a puppy from Tsitsilia we will be in contact with you over the next week or so to discuss your puppy reservation.
